Katima welcomes holiday lovers to an exciting festive season

Katima Mulilo is gearing up for a vibrant and unforgettable festive season filled with activities and events that cater to all ages and interests.

From 19 to 23 December, the town will come alive with sports tournaments, cultural celebrations, and heartwarming initiatives designed to foster community spirit and celebrate the holiday season in style.

In an interview, Lilungwe Lifasi, Manager of Corporate, Bilateral and Legal Support at the Katima Mulilo Town Council, said this year’s festive calendar is all about creating a meaningful experience for residents and visitors alike.

“This festive season, we aim to bring our community together through a series of engaging activities and events. From sports tournaments to cultural showcases and initiatives that support our senior citizens, we want to ensure that everyone feels the joy and warmth of the season,” said Lifasi.

The festivities kick off with sports tournaments featuring netball, men and women volleyball, and soccer.

Lifasi said these competitions not only provide entertainment but also strengthen community bonds by bringing people together through the love of sports.

A standout event will be the live performance by the Dalom Kids on 20 December, which promises to be a musical treat for attendees. On the same day, Lifasi said the town council will extend its appreciation to senior citizens by distributing food parcels to the elderly.

“This gesture reflects our commitment to ensuring that our senior citizens feel valued and included in the celebrations,” Lifasi added.

Beyond the scheduled events, Katima Mulilo offers a range of attractions that showcase the town’s unique charm. Visitors can explore cultural markets featuring local crafts, traditional attire, and the renowned Zambezi bream. For nature lovers, the famous Wooden Bridge provides breathtaking views of the Zambezi River, offering a serene escape and stunning photo opportunities.

For those seeking a lively atmosphere, well known Bezi Bar situated on the edge of the Zambezi River is the place to be. With live music and a vibrant nightlife, it’s a favourite spot for both locals and visitors.

In addition, visitors and residents can enjoy the well-known Stone City where people can have braai and swim while taking precautionary measures due to the nature of the river.

“Our aim is to ensure that this festive season is not only enjoyable but also memorable for everyone. We encourage everyone to take part in the events and discover the beauty and hospitality of Katima Mulilo,” he urged.

Lifasi added: “With such a diverse lineup of activities and the town’s welcoming spirit, Katima Mulilo is the perfect destination to celebrate this festive season. Don’t miss the chance to be part of the excitement.” -anakale@nepc.com.na
