WINDHOEK – Sports administrator and businessman Ndeulipula  Hamutumwa on Wednesday donated bicycles, T-shirts, flashlights and bullet-proof vests to the newly established Katutura Network Against Crime (KNAC). The donated items is valued at N$8 000 and the group also received N$10 000 in cash.

KNAC was launched on Wednesday to help fight crime in Katutura Central constituency. Hamutumwa, who is a Katutura resident, informed New Era “that with crime there can be no development”.

Ambrosius Kandjii, Katutura Central Councillor said at the launch held at the Katutura Community Hall in Katutura Central, that “today marks a crucial and historic day as the office of the Katutura Central constituency  officially introduces the network against crime. I believe that these criminals are our sons, daughters, fathers, and uncles. We know who these criminals are, so if we stand together as one, change will come.”

The network will work with both the Namibian Police and the Windhoek City Police as the eyes and ears of the constituency, the councillor said.

Sixty unemployed people have so far joined the network. This weekend the network will raise awareness and target notorious areas like Single Quarters and Herero Mall.

Kandjii said that the network would first target Katutura Central, before it spreads to the whole of Khomas. He added that he wants the network to be self-sustaining and not die after two months. “I want it to still be there even when I am not a councillor. We are not creating a security company,” said Kandjii.
