Katutura Fashion Week kicks off today

The Katutura Fashion Week (KWF) is scheduled to commence today at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre, themed ‘Inventing Fashion Today KFW 2024.’

The event will blend fashion and music, highlighting the talents of local designers and artists from across Namibia.

It will feature local and international designers.

The Katutura Fashion Week 2024 hopes to enhance the Namibian fashion industry by offering a platform for emerging designers to present their creations.

Dennis Hendricks, the founder of KFW, remarked that this year’s theme encourages designers to expand their creative horizons, and explore innovative styles.

By urging designers to venture beyond their usual boundaries, KFW 2024 seeks to foster inspiration and originality.

Hendricks revealed that KFW has experienced significant growth this year.

It received recognition in Angola, and was honoured as the best event producer.

“This achievement is particularly meaningful, as we are currently being studied in Brazil for the cultural representation we have consistently showcased regarding Namibia.”

The fashion enthusiast emphasised the importance of delving deeper into the fashion industry in Namibia, and expanding this nascent sector for future generations.

“This year, we have engaged more local designers, and the event is set to feature an exhilarating array of vibrant colours, innovative patterns, and striking accessories. KFW is dedicated to enhancing the visibility of our local designers to bolster and fortify the design industry in Namibia, providing models from various regions of the country with opportunities to be discovered by larger markets. The ultimate objective of KFW is to attract fashion designers from across the continent to showcase their work in our nation,” he stated.

He noted that KFW serves as a bridge between cultures through fashion, celebrating local talent from diverse backgrounds in Namibia.

“The primary challenge we encounter is the lack of sufficient funding to execute a comprehensive fashion week production. We encourage more companies to become involved. One crucial aspect of this industry is the importance of being precise about the circumstances and the expected outcomes, rather than exaggerating,” he remarked.
