Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi reported progress of the infrastructure upgrade project at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital in Parliament on Tuesday.
The ministry aims to restore and modernise the solar water heating infrastructure and install heat pumps for critical areas at the hospital, including the kitchen and nurses’ home facilities.
The healthcare infrastructure project is being carried out by the Namibia Engineering Cooperation and Pumps Limited, with a value of N$10 million.
“It is 20% complete,” said Nekundi. He shared that so far, damaged panels have been removed from the main building, nurses’ home, and kitchen area. They have been transferred to the health ministry for disposal.
“The modification works for the solar panels are currently advancing in phases, with completion targeted across the main building, the west wing, the main building east wing, the kitchen and the nurses’ home facilities,” Nekundi said.
Meanwhile, heat pumps have been procured and are expected to be delivered this month.
“Similarly, the installation of cages and dusting to manage the cold air distribution is proceeding as planned, with completion anticipated by the end of this month,” he added.
