Kavango West Football League title race intensifies

With four games remaining in the Kavango West Second Division Football League, it is still too early to predict who will win the league since three teams are fiercely vying for first place in the log standings.

The 12-team league has seen 18 games thus far, and is set to conclude the 2023/2024 season next weekend at the Nkurenkuru Stadium.

The title and promotional playoffs are now in the hands of the league’s current leaders, Kulisuka Palace, with Young Western Fighters in second place, and LK United in third.

Following the weekend’s tense confrontations in rounds 16 and 17, which pitted the top teams against one another, Kulisuka Palace collected four crucial points with a 4-0 thrashing of Nankundu Eleven on Saturday before settling for a 1-all draw against Young Warriors Fighters on Sunday. With 39 points, one loss and six draws, Kulisuka remain at the top of the standings.

Young Warriors Fighters defeated LK United 3-0 on Saturday, before tying 1-1 with the league leaders, retaining second place on 36 points.

On Sunday, LK United rebounded from their Saturday loss with a 3-0 win over Nankundu Eleven, putting them in third position with 36 points.

Maporeza’s relegation worries worsened after they failed to earn maximum points over the weekend, losing 1-0 to Western Stars on Saturday in an all-relegation battle, before drawing 1-1 with Super Eleven on Sunday. The latter are 13 points down in the relegation zone at position 12, with little hope of safety.

Monaco is also deep in the relegation zone, having only collected one point after a 0-0 draw with Chippo Stars before losing 1-0 to Mayenzere United, leaving them in 11th place with 17 points.

Western Stars lost 1-0 to Chief Sitentu on Sunday, leaving them in 10th place with 17 points.

Mayenzere United is fourth in the log, having defeated Kahenge Chelsea 3-0 on Saturday, bringing their overall record to 26 points. Despite losing to Mayenzere United (3-0) and Chippo Stars (1-0) over the weekend, Kahange Chelsea remain tied for fifth place.

Following a double disaster over the weekend, Nankundu Eleven remain in sixth place with 25 points, while Chippo Stars maintain seventh place with 25 points after collecting four points against Monaco (0-0) and Kahenge Chelsea (1-0).

Chief Sinentu is comfortably in eighth place with 22 points after consecutive 1-0 triumphs over Western United and Super Eleven.

Super Eleven is eighth with 20 points after failing to earn maximum points with a 1-0 loss to Chief Sinentu, and a 1-1 draw with Maporeza. – Nampa
