NKURENKURU – The Kavango West top-tier Second Division League roared into life over the weekend as the delayed 2025/2026 season finally got underway, delivering a flood of goals and a series of surprise results.

The league had been scheduled to start a week earlier, but was postponed due to slow team registration on the E-Connect system. When action eventually began, it more than made up for lost time, with 48 goals scored across 12 matches in rounds one and two. Newly promoted Time Boys FC emerged as the early talking point of the season, stunning established sides on the road to collect maximum points.

The underdogs edged Nankudu XI FC 1-0 on Saturday before following up with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Monaco FC on Sunday.

Time Boys coach Alfons Kanyetu said his side is aiming to maintain its momentum as they prepare for two home fixtures this coming weekend.

“We are playing at home this weekend, so we are optimistic and want to win both games,” Kanyetu said. The newcomers currently sit second on the log standings.

Nankudu XI head coach Peter Kawali, however, felt that his side had only themselves to blame for their defeat against Time Boys, citing missed chances.

“We created a lot of opportunities in the first half but failed to convert. Our problem is that the forwards are not hungry for goals,” Kawali said. Nankudu XI remain goalless after a scoreless draw against Mayenzere United FC on Sunday, though their defense has been solid, conceding just one goal in two matches.

Elsewhere, Kulisuka Palace responded strongly after suffering a heavy 7-2 defeat to reigning champions Chief Sitentu on Saturday, rebounding with a dominant 6-0 win over Kahenge Chelsea on Sunday.

LK United climbed to the top of the standings on goal difference after beating Kahenge Chelsea 2-0 on Saturday and edging Chief Sitentu 3-2 the following day.

Another newly promoted side, Mutororo FC, endured a mixed start to life in the Second Division, losing 3-2 to Red New Stars FC on Saturday before settling for a 1-1 draw against KCR Western Stars FC on Sunday. Their travelling partners, Young Western Fighters FC, impressed away from home with a 3-2 win over KCR Western Stars on Saturday.

On Sunday, they mounted a spirited comeback from 2-0 down to lead Red New Stars 3-2, only to concede late and settle for a draw.
