Keetmanshoop to formalise informal area

Keetmanshoop to formalise informal area

KEETMANSHOOP – Chairperson of the management committee at the Keetmanshoop municipality Easter Isaak said the municipality will soon formalise the Tsereres informal settlement, known as Tseiblaagte extension 7.

In an interview with Nampa recently, he said the municipality will service 60 erven with water and sewage amenities for N$1.89 million.

The tender was awarded to Ashy Trading.

Isaak stated that to make way for these developments, the municipality will temporarily house the communities at the community hall and reception area that has been formalised.

However, it is not serviced with water, sewage and electricity.

“The structures in the Tsereres area will be taken out, and placed in a safe arena. Some people will be moved to the reception area, while others will be brought back to the area but in a formalised space. Now, when it comes to the reception area, we, as a municipality will have to service those erven in-house. We are still in the process of how we can go about that,” he added.

The chairperson revealed that the municipality has set aside N$2.5 million to interlock the 1 400 metres road in the Westdene residential area, and a further N$ 638 788 for the interlocking of a 900 metres road in the Krönlein residential area.

The road will connect the B1 road to the road that leads to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital.

The chairperson said the three projects are expected to be completed within four months.

The tenders were awarded to local companies.

“We got a commitment from them that they will employ locals. We asked that they plough back into the community through their social corporate responsibility,” he stressed.
