RUNDU – Kehemu Junior Primary School in Rundu is inviting members of the public to support their initiative to raise funds for the development of infrastructure at the school.
A gala dinner is set for 23 September and corporate, business and government institutions are invited to buy tickets to support the school in achieving its goal.
“Even if they don’t pledge much, they would be supporting us just by buying a table for their institution or company,” said the principal of school, Ellipius Songora.
Last year, the school, which has been operating as Kehemu Primary School, was split into two schools Kehemu Senior Primary and Kehemu Junior Primary School and the senior primary will use the current school infrastructure while the junior primary has been weaned off to an adjacent open space and now needs its own classrooms.
The current enrolment at Kehemu JP is 1 475 learners with 38 staff members and with the junior primary section moving out this will provide space to Rundu’s most overcrowded school.
“We are in need of classrooms due to that break up. Our aim for the gala dinner is to seek support from friends of education in kind or cash, for us to build classrooms for our children. We need about 29 classrooms to cater to our enrolment,” Songora said.
“Since the school has been separated from the Kehemu Primary School, we are now vacating the old facility that will now be used by the Kehemu Senior Primary School and we need new facilities as the area where we are being relocated to has no structures. That is why we need support from our community and all Namibians,’’ he said.
