The much-hyped second edition of the annual Ministerial Championship tourney saw reigning champions Khomas seize the coveted Trophy once again, thrashing the mighty Otjozondjupa Region in the final by five unanswered goals.

The clearly out-of-sorts outfit found the going tough and could simply not get out of first gear against the fired-up Khomas, who kept rattling the opposition’s net at will.

Zambezi Region claimed the third place play-off via a walkover at the expense of Kavango after the latter failed to turn up for the clash. The agitated Kavango’s further interest in the tourney faded when they were hammered 4-0 by Otjozondjupa in the semi-final.

Last year finalists, Zambezi, had to settle for third place after they failed to negotiate their way past eternal rivals Khomas region, suffering a humiliating 4-1 defeat.

The Copper Town of Tsumeb, in the Oshikoto Region played hosts to the competition, whose maiden edition was hosted by Zambezi region last year.

The Ministerial Tourney, conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Works and Transport, aims to integrate its workforce, while at the same time urging them to be physically fit.

In the netball section, Khomas Region were on fire, as the ladies returned the compliment to their male counterparts by clinching the trophy and brushing aside a hapless Kavango Region in an exciting final to claim first prize.

Hosts Oshikoto were not to be outdone, as they walked away with the prestigious volleyball trophy. Individual athletes participating in the 100 and 200-metre sprints were the proud recipients of medals after emerging victorious on the athletics track.
