Khomas Super 10 heats up …as netball action returns

The Khomas Super 10 Netball League resumed this weekend with a thrilling lineup of matches across various venues in the capital.

Action kicked off on Friday afternoon with games in the premier, first and second divisions. 

In the second division, Trustco United secured a 42-36 victory over Tigers, while Wanderers fell short against NUST, losing 16-24.

Saturday’s fixtures saw intense competition in the premier division, where Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) dominated NUST with a convincing 50-29 win. 

UNAM and Wanderers battled to a dramatic 31-all draw, while NCS returned to the court to defeat Gomonathe Fella 63-21.

Speaking to New Era Sport after the match played at Wanderers Netball Courts in the capital, United’s head coach Elzinre Burger  expressed satisfaction with her team’s strong start, highlighting their fitness levels and preparation ahead of the new season.

“This match went as expected; it wasn’t easy because our opponents were quite competitive. 

However, we prepared well before the season, and today’s result reflects our hard work in training,” she said.

“The girls showed great fitness, both mentally and physically, which are key ingredients for success this season. 

I’m happy with our performance, and we aim to build on this momentum moving forward.”

In other second-division action, Afrocat Lions defeated Black Africa 32-19, while Tura Magic proved too strong for United, winning 36-22. 

UNAM suffered a 16-37 defeat to Quality Queens, while TC Gladiators lost 18-25 to Windhoek City. The last match of the weekend saw City of Windhoek claim a 35-26 victory over Afrocat Lions.

League coordinator Issadore Nel, said she is satisfied with the team commitment this season, adding they have shown a difference from the past seasons. 

“I am happy the league has returned, as you can see, the courts are on fire and fans have come in numbers to show their support, we expect the competition to be intense this season,” she said.
