Kilimanjaro bonanza a success

Founder and coach of the MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club, Joseph Bernhard, hailed his team’s recent boxing event at the Oshikuku Trade Fair as a great success.

The event, titled “The Young Shall Grow Boxing Bonanza Part 6,” took place this past weekend, attracting about 40 aspiring boxers from different stables across the northern regions of the country.

More than ten bouts took place, with Kilimanjaro boxers, winning in multiple categories and reaffirming their increasing influence on the local boxing scene.

In an interview with New Era Sport, Bernhard expressed satisfaction with the turnout and the level of competition.

“I didn’t expect the number of people who showed up to watch what I consider the biggest sport in the country. It was satisfying to see boxers from other stables coming out to showcase their talent,” he said.

He said one of the most rewarding parts was seeing the excitement for boxing among young people in Oshikuku, an area where the sport hasn’t been very popular.

“It is one of those places where boxing isn’t well-known; most kids there only play football. But over the weekend, We saw interest and passion for boxing. We have already started discussions with local leaders to help establish the sport in the area. That is huge for us because it helps lay the foundation, and you never know, maybe a future boxing champion will come from Oshikuku,” Bernhard said.
