Kilimanjaro to host another bonanza

Kilimanjaro to host another bonanza

Boxing fans in the northern parts of the country are in for a treat as the leading amateur boxing stable MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club is set to host another exciting event this month.

The event will take place on 23 November at Independence Stadium in Ongwediva, Oshana region.

It will feature more than 20 bouts.

This will be different from previous ones hosted by the stable as it will include all boxing clubs from the region, a first in which all clubs will compete together.

Additionally, the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Boxing Club and the After-School Boxing Academy from Windhoek are expected to add excitement to the night.

The founder and promoter of the northern  stable, Joseph Bernhard, said the event will feature only amateur boxers, and is intended as a “get-together” boxing event.

“This is one of those events that brings boxers together, allowing them to refresh their minds and reflect on the year. Not all boxers are from the same stable, and we’re organising this to prepare our people for voting in the national election.

It’s our way of doing advocacy, helping to spread the word on behalf of the government, and encouraging people to go to the polls,” he said.

Regarding preparations, Bernhard stated: “As you know, for boxers, there is no rest day. Your life is in the ring, and that’s where you belong.
So, training is going well, as we’ve kept the boxers in the gym since our last event earlier this year. I think most of our boxers are in great shape, and just waiting for action time”.

One of the country’s most-decorated amateur boxer, Trofimus Johannes, who is set to headline the event, told this publication yesterday that he is ready for his opponent, having remained active in the gym.

“I’ve had a great year representing my country, region and club at various events, both in and outside the country. Overall, I am ready for my opponent.

Boxing is life, and this is what I love doing. I’m also grateful to the stable for always giving us fights to keep us in shape,” he said.

The bonanza will be free of charge.

The founder has called on boxing fans from the region and surrounding areas to come in large numbers to support the event.
