Kongola cyclist dies in hit and run accident

KATIMA MULILO- A 52 year-old man tragically died after a car bumped him before it speed off at Kongola in the Zambezi region over the weekend. It is alleged that the unknown motorist bumped a cyclist to death and failed to stop the vehicle to ascertain the extent of the man’s injuries.

According to Zambezi police spokesperson, Inspector Kisco Sitali, the deceased  who was wearing a blue Ts-shirt and a black trousers, sustained severe head injuries and multiple broken fractures on both arms. 

Sitali said the motorist failed to render any assistance to the injured victim after the accident.

The police reported the suspect, who is still at large, also failed to stop nor report the accident which is a violation in accordance to Namibian laws. The incident occurred on Saturday at around 19h20 along the Singalamwe/Kamenga road near New look village in Kongola. The deceased person is a resident of Sesheke village in Kongola area. His next of kin have been informed.

Police investigations into the matter continues. A case of culpable homicide alternatively reckless and or negligent driving has been opened.
