… finish second in Gaborone
WINDHOEK – The Namibian ladies cricket team finished second in the four-nations tournament held in Gaborone, Bostwana last week.
Namibia, Mozambique, Swaziland and hosts Botswana participated in the annual tournament in preparation for the ICC tournament in Kenya later this year.
The ladies played their first match against Mozambique. The latter were all out for 79 after 25 overs. However, Namibia won with 5 wickets in hand in 15.2 overs with Namibia’s Yasmeen Khan voted player of the match.
Namibia also beat Swaziland after scoring 288 runs in 40 overs. Swaziland were all out for 78 – leaving Namibia to win by 183 runs. Namibian Vice-Captain, Chantelle Estherhuizen, was named player of the match for scoring 58 runs.
Namibia encountered the tough Botswana team in a very competitive match, leaving Namibia to be crowned runners-up for the tournament. Botswana won the toss and elected to bat scoring 184/4 in 40. Namibia lost an early crucial wicket but still managed to score 113 runs for 9 wickets in 40 overs.
Namibia’s wicket keeper, Carmen Engelbretch, scooped the best wicket keeper award for the tourney. “Cricket Namibia (CN) applauded Bank Windhoek for their sponsorship, making it possible for the ladies team to participate in the tournament including the continuation of ladies cricket development,” said Jona Ambuga, Development Coordinator for Cricket Namibia.
Ambuga also acknowledged Kalahari Freight Carriers and the De Klerk family for all their support and contribution towards the development of cricket in general.
