WINDHOEK – With only eight matches left before the curtain closes on the 2014/2015 MTC Premiership and 24 points up for grabs – the coveted league title is there for the taking and it’s now only for runaway log leaders African Stars to lose it.
However, football is a game full of surprises and anything can still happen from now on with the boys being separated from the men as the race for the league title hits the home straight.
The Reds have conceded the least number of goals (17 to be precise) and have found the opposition’s net many more times than any other team in the current term with an astonishing tally of 56 goals.
Despite lying third, a massive 12 points off the pace, defending champions Black Africa are placed second in the goal scoring charts – 10 goals adrift of title rivals Stars while their defence has leaked 23 goals.
The Namibian champions have two games in hand over their title rivals and will in all likelihood have a mathematical chance to overhaul the Reds if their current form is anything to go and hope other results go their way.
Perched in second place 10 points off the summit – rank outsiders Tigers can spring a surprise or two if Ingweinyama maintain consistency.
Tigers’ habitual lack of chalking up an extended run of successive decent results has proven to be the club’s major downfall in the past and unless that issue receives attention it will be back to the drawing board for Bobby Samaria’s soldiers.
At the foot of the table, bottom club Benfica looks destined for a quick return to familiar territory and barring a miracle – the Copper Town lads could kiss goodbye to their premier league status and could be joined by fellow northerners Touch & Go, Sporting Julihno or Rebels – in that pecking order.
