By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK On Friday the winners of the Shell Envirocare competition received their prizes at the Owela Museum in the capital. Entries were received from 35 Namibian schools from all the regions in the country. “It was an extremely difficult choice to select the winners in each category and a pity that we cannot give every participant a prize,” said the country chairman of Shell Namibia Limited, Willie Mokgatlhe, when handing over the prize monies and certificates of participation to the ten winners. The competition, part of the company’s social investment programme, was launched in 2005 to give learners the opportunity to demonstrate by detailed research and creative projects the many facets of alternative and sustainable energy. “It is all part of our commitment to sustainable development, balancing economic progress with environmental care and social responsibility. Solutions to the future won’t come easily, particularly in today’s business climate, but you cannot find them if you don’t keep looking,” said Mokgatlhe. Each of the ten winning schools on Friday received N$400 and individual winners received a prize, T-shirts and a hat. The competition is now in its third year focusing on all Namibian secondary schools. The winners were Charles Mboma and Augustinus Ndjamba of Linus Shashipapo Secondary School at Rundu, (first prize): Angela Antsino and Elizabeth Mofuka of Eldorado Project School in the capital (second prize) and taking third prize were Glen Tekkoyajone, Hanna Naris, Ivan Jafta and Chiffohn Bohitile of Dobra Secondary School.
