WINDHOEK- Local artists Dimitri Marvin and Sheena Schwartz are teaming up once again to introduce primary and high school learners to the art of slam poetry over a five day workshop at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) starting from September 15.
After the successful initiation of the project in 2013, for the second consecutive year, aspiring poets have the opportunity to dip their feet in the water of verbal arts through a poetry slam workshop. Addressing social issues relevant to the youth, the workshop participants will be trained in expressing themselves through poetry and presenting their efforts to the public on the last day of the workshop on September 19. During the workshop, special mentorship and a performance will be given by Erna Chimu, 2014 Namibian Music Awards (NAMAs) Best Female Artist of the Year.
Dimitri Marvin has been performing on the Spoken Word Namibia stage for the past two years. Sheena Schwartz was awarded Best Female Actress at the 2012 Namibian Theatre and Film Awards and she has recently completed a Journalism course in Turku, Finland. Both artists enjoy creative versatility and embrace grassroots training as a method to deal with social issues pertaining to the Namibian society. Interested school learners can apply for participation in the workshop by handing in a sample of their poetry by September 9 at the FNCC. Participation in the workshop is free. For more information call Sheena on 081 8034204 or Dimitri on 081 6236683.
