The Governor of Erongo Region, Cleophas Mutjavikua, says political leaders should focus on the development of their various constituencies and regions to eradicate poverty and also guard against tribalism.
According to Mutjavikua, a multispectral approach is needed to defeat poverty, while tribalism is one of the key factors that will derail Vision 2030.
Mutjavikua was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the Erongo regional councillors, held on Friday at Swakopmund.
During the ceremony, Hafeni Ndemula was sworn is as the Walvis Bay Urban Constituency councillor and as the regional council chairperson.
Councillor John Nangolo was sworn in as the Walvis Bay Rural Constituency councillor and Johannes Hamutenya as the new councillor for Omaruru Constituency.
Melania Ndjago is the new councillor for Karibib, Juuso Kambueshe for Swakopmund Constituency and Benitha Imbamba for Arandis.
Joram Kennedy !Haoseb of the United Democratic Front (UDF) was sworn in as the Daures Constituency councillor and replaces Ernst Katjiku who lost against !Hoaseb during the regional council and local authority elections that took place on November 27.
Nangolo, Hamutenya and Ndjago will represent the region in the National Council.
Mutjavikua urged the newly elected leadership to shift their mindset in such a way that it is aligned with the development goals of Vision 2030 so that development takes place in their respective constituencies.
He appealed to the newly elected leadership to move away from tribalism as it blocks progress
“Tribalism is contrary to Vision 2030 – we therefore have no room for such behaviour. Namibia must move forward in unity and therefore politicians should avoid allowing tribalism and racism to influence their decisions as the most vulnerable people will suffer,” stressed the Erongo governor.
He says there is no room for division of people in the country.
“We must unite our people not divide them. Our aim should be to feed them and create opportunities to promote sustainable growth, employment and production,” he said.
