WINDHOEK – Local business tycoon, Jesco Woermann, of the national chain store Woermann Supermarket, narrowly escaped death when his light aircraft crash-landed on Saturday at Eros Airport. Woermann failed to successfully approach and land the aircraft at Eros Airport, during some practice runs on Saturday, and as a result the plane, a Cessna 210, smashed through the border fence, where the wire mesh brought the plane to a halt
The accident happened on Saturday around 15h00. The last exercise the pilot carried out almost turned fatal as the aircraft skidded off the runway and crash through the border fence some 30 metres from the main road leading to Pionierspark and Academia.
According to sources, the landing was not perfect as the pilot ran out of space from where he was supposed to land and where he was supposed to take off. The pilot was alone in the four-seater single engine plane during the incident and the wings, fuselage, under belly and landing gear exhibited structural damage.
