A 28-year-old woman was burnt beyond recognition after a hut she was sleeping in caught fire after a bolt of lightning at the Nkonke village in Kavango West, last week. 

Three other people who were also sleeping in the hut escaped the fire. 

Kavango West regional police commander, commissioner Julia Sakuwa confirmed the incident. 

The deceased was identified as Johanna Nzawo, a resident of Matava village. 

Sakuwa said at the time of incident, the deceased was sleeping in a hut with three other people when a bolt of lightning struck the hut. 

Three people escaped from the hut when it caught fire but one of them got burns on her back. 

De ce as ed remai ns we re transported to Nkurenkuru police mortuary for autopsy and her next of kin were informed of her death.
