Renowned rapper La-Toya Mwoombola, widely recognised as Lioness, is making a strong return with the upcoming release of her single, ‘Pull Up’.
The single which was released today serves as the second instalment from her third studio album, and is expected to herald a new chapter in her musical career. Celebrated for her vibrant sound and insightful lyrics, the award-winning artist shared with VIBEZ! her experiences in creating the single, her artistic evolution and the personal development that has influenced her latest work.
“I took my time with the music for this album, and I feel like people have been wanting that Lioness comeback. This song is purely me. It is all of my energy.
I wanted people to have a piece of me again,” she said.
For enthusiasts who have been anticipating her latest musical release, ‘Pull Up’ is set to deliver the quintessential Lioness experience, brimming with confidence, strength and genuineness. Following the release of her previous project, the ‘Dance & Dance’ EP in 2022, Lioness is making her comeback with a revitalised sense of identity after what appeared to be a short hiatus.
“The song is just another one of those confidence-boosters, hinting at the theme of empowerment that runs through the single. I needed that for myself, especially after giving birth and going through all of these changes,” she said.
As a mother and artist, she has experienced significant transformations throughout her life, and her latest release serves as a powerful assertion of her resilience, encouraging her fans to embrace their strength. She is recognised not only for her musical talent, but, also her innovative music videos that often challenge conventional artistic limits.
In the music video for ‘Pull Up’, she collaborated once more with the skilled Dirk the Director to realise her artistic vision.
Although she has chosen to keep specific production details under wraps, she has announced that the video will premiere later this month, assuring fans that it will embody the same vibrant energy and creativity that has characterised her previous works.
In an era where artists are increasingly finding unique ways to engage with their audiences, Lioness has turned to TikTok as a means of connecting with her fans.
Although she did not initially intend to launch a dance challenge for ‘Pull Up’, she said the enthusiastic response from her audience has led to the spontaneous creation of one.
“There is a TikTok challenge now, called the Lioness Pull-Up Challenge. I just want my fans to have fun and enjoy the music. The challenge is already gaining traction, with fans showing off their moves to the energetic track. The single is now available for streaming on all major platforms,” she said.
