The objectives of the 2025 Motoring Expo, which took place on Friday and Saturday, were not only to provide entertainment but also to support and grow motorsport in Namibia, build infrastructure, promote safety standards and inspire the next generation of motorsports enthusiasts.
The event was a huge success, with both experienced and new attendees already asking about the next motoring expo.
The spectacular two-day event kicked off on Friday, with that evening’s programme featuring spinning and drag racing.
On Saturday, the gates opened early for an endurance “Vasbyt” challenge, then gymkhana and drifting enthralled spectators throughout the day.
The expo also featured an exhibition component, with standout dealers and exhibits, including new-model test drives from exhibitor M&Z Motors showcasing brands such as Mercedes-Benz, JAC, LDV, Mitsubishi, Fiat, Jeep, Hyundai, and Kia.
All in all, the expo received a warm welcome from local motoring aficionados and was highly praised for its family-festival vibe, coupled with food stalls and DJs. The inclusion of visiting drift teams from Johannesburg definitely gave the expo an international flair.
With engines revving, tyres smoking and drifting, and drag showcases, the weekend’s atmosphere was billed as high-octane and visually spectacular.
The fact that crowds gathered in large numbers is further evidence of the growing appetite for and infrastructure of motorsport in Namibia. -ebrandt@nepc.com.na
