WINDHOEK-One of the young Namibian models, Loide Katjuskah (24), says she is ready to be the Educational Ambassador of the northern parts of the country, after selection as one of the finalists.
Loide says being selected as a finalist came as a surprise to her and she will do all her best to take the crown. “If I win this title, I will encourage other youths to study very hard and become successful in their lives by advising them and giving them valid reasons of education through different projects,” Loide envisions. She adds that she will make sure all the kids living in the streets, school-drop outs and orphans will start going to school. She will also vigorously campaign for free secondary education and promises to share her talent with fellow youths.
Loide started modelling while schooling at Okambebe Combined School in the Ohangwena region. “One cannot believe I used to model on top of the school’s tables without any competition just to show them what I love the most, I was just born to be one!” says Loide with confidence. So far she has won Miss Erongo 2008, Miss Ohangwena 2008, Miss Valentines of Oshela Senior Secondary School 2009, Second Princess at Miss Oshela 2009, Miss Opuwo Trade Exhibition 2010.
Loide says winning all those title encouraged her to start training models under her own modeling agency, Katjuskah Modeling Agency. With her agency, Loide was also awarded the Best Beauty Pageant Organiser by Afoka under the National Youth Council. Miss Educational Ambassador pageant aims to showcase the beauty and talents in local girls but also trying to find the perfect candidate that will be personified as someone important in society. The mission and vision of the event is to encourage and develop leadership skills and knowledge among Namibian young women who lead and provide leadership skills to the next generation. The main duties of the winner is to travel around schools in the area to find out the difficulties faced by the learners, address learners on the importance of education, address parents’ meetings, address learners on different issues such as teenage pregnancies, gender- based violence, and the dangers and side effects of abortions.
“We want an ambassador who is a great thinker and that uses brain power to find solutions to problems and not only with beauty and physical appearance,” says Fillemon Filly-zo, the organiser of the event. The crowning will take place at the Oshikango Town Lounge on April 4.
