WINDHOEK – Jaunita Slinger, FNB Namibia’s Wellness Coordinator, said that the beginning of a new year usually meant that people set new goals for themselves, not only in their personal lives but also at work. “As Wellness people at FNB Namibia, we challenge everyone to ask themselves if they are still in love with their job,” she said. “Loving your job is not supposed to be a ‘rare-to-find-nice-to-have’. It is an essential element of your overall wellbeing.”

FNB Namibia firmly believed that a healthy relationship with work was essential as people spend at least half of their waking hours at work. “Furthermore, it is very difficult to invest in a career that you do not love. Work-related things such as extra training, certifications and conferences will just be seen as a burden. We will also lack fulfilment if we spend our time doing something other than what we love to do. We shall always have a feeling that we are missing out on something,” Slinger added.
She went on to say that while no job was perfect and every employment had its down sides, it was however vitally important to get through the day and all challenges with a smile. She encouraged employees to become motivated to face the day. “Focus on how the benefits of having a job contribute to your current lifestyle.  A positive attitude will make the day more pleasant and productive.”

She also advises employees to delegate wherever appropriate. “Remember to delegate and share the work, where necessary. Always remember the “3D” rule regarding paper work: do it, dump it or delegate it. Never handle a piece of paper twice. Appreciate others. Always express and show others that you appreciate their help and support. Be genuine in complimenting others on their successes,” she said.

“Take regular breaks. Get away from your workstation, even if only for five minutes. Go on annual leave when your leave is due. Make your workplace more pleasant. Contribute towards creating a pleasant work environment. A positive attitude is contagious. Positive and upbeat people attract others and lighten the mood in the office. Cultivate relationships with colleagues with a positive attitude,” she advised.

“Learn to have more fun at work. Laugh more and chill out. At FNB Namibia this is not difficult. We are a great team and a preferred employer in the country,” concluded Slinger.
