LüDERITZ – The annual Speed Challenge competition in Namibia’s southern harbour town Lüderitz went off well, says event coordinator Sophie Routaboul.

On the 29th of last month, event organizers in conjunction with local companies Seaflower, Lüderitz Town Council, volunteers and speed challenge competitors entertained those in attendance with a variety of water sports activities.

The kids took the opportunity to discover the new water sport that is fast gaining popularity around the world – Stand Up Paddling.

The channel provides for the perfect location to learn stand up paddling, as it is safe and shallow with warm water, unlike the ocean.

Originating in Hawaii, the equipment has been developed to suit everybody including the young and old. The children did very well tackling the water under the most perfect calm and sunny conditions.

The competition was well organized with lots of prizes at stake in the various age group categories.

The kids also watched riders set up their equipment to get an idea as to what the Chris Benz Lüderitz World Record Chase is all about, while learning how the particular event is promoting Lüderitz and Namibia to the world.
