Lüderitz – The Lüderitz Town Council prepared a structural plan which will guide the development of Lüderitz over the next 25 to 30 years.
The Lüderitz Town Council CEO Anie Gideon has thus invited the public to visit her office as from October 15 to October 31 2014 to peruse the final draft of the Lüderitz structural plan.
The plan was adopted by the council as a key policy document, which will guide the development of the town until 2040. The plan is considered to be transparent and a leading policy document guiding and informing decision-makers and communities as to how an urban area can grow.
In 2013, the Lüderitz Town Council appointed Stubenrauch planning Consultants cc, with Piet Louw and Dave Dewar in association to compile a structural plan for the town lands under the jurisdiction of the council.
The plan will guide and manage the effect of increasing pressure on the man-made and natural environment of the town, with the aim of adopting an integrated and holistic future-orientated planning approach to the sustainable use of Lüderitz, explained Gideon.
Gideon indicated that the most important aspect of a structural plan is to achieve a level of development that can be sustained for the benefit of the town’s current and future inhabitants. “It is for this reason that the public is invited to inspect the final draft of the plan during working hours,” she said.
There are a number of challenges that may face the town in future, which include the cost of development and the speed of land delivery, “but we believe that with the active participation of our community it will be possible to achieve these goals”, she said.
“The success of this structural plan is dependent on the support of each and every land owner and land user in our town. I urge all of you to ensure that you give your individual and collective support to the structural plan, and make a positive contribution to the development of Lüderitz,” said Gibeon.
