Luvindao unveils NIP board 

Minister of Health Dr Esperance Luvindao, yesterday officially inaugurated a new board for the National Institute of Pathology (NIP), appointing a team tasked with steering the institution for the next three years. 

The newly appointed team includes, Stephanie Viljoen, who is the chairperson, with Lucia Kazetjikuria serving as vice-chairperson. Other members include Helvi Haludilu and Chris Hiquano. The members are expected to assume their roles at the beginning of next month. 

Speaking at the press conference held at ministry’s head office in Windhoek West, Luvindao, expressed gratitude to the outgoing board for their contribution to the institution, noting that their efforts had laid a solid foundation for the incoming leadership.

“I want to thank the outgoing board members for bringing their part to this crucial institute and for their contributions to steer the institute into the right direction. You guys were part of the most crucial institute in Namibia ensuring services are delivered on time, you have laid the groundwork for the upcoming ones to thrive on. You guys contributed massively to the health care system,” she said. 

Moving on the incoming board, the minister called for a results-driven approach, urging the board to adopt smart and strategic methods in executing their mandate. She stressed the importance of integrity, making it clear that corruption would not be tolerated under the new administration. “The expectations are high. The incoming board must work smart, be strategic, and most importantly, there should be zero tolerance for corruption,” Luvindao emphasised. Meanwhile while receiving her appointment letter, Viljoen, who will be steering the institute for the next three years said she was honoured to take up the role of chairperson and lead the board at a critical time for the institution. She highlighted governance, transparency and collaboration as key pillars that will guide her leadership.

“I am truly honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility. Our focus will be on strengthening governance systems, ensuring transparency in our operations, and fostering collaboration within and outside the institute,” she said. Viljoen added that the board is committed to transforming the NIP into a more efficient and accountable institution that delivers quality services to the public.

Their term will officially commence in May, with stakeholders anticipating improved performance and stronger oversight in the years ahead. – mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
