Magicians must not rest on laurels

WINDHOEK – After his young brigades managed to gallop to their first ever cup competition victory on Saturday after beating Eleven Arrows by 1-0 to win the Namibia Premier League (NPL) League Cup at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay, Tura Magic coach Bertus Bock says he won’t get carried away by the win and insists now is the time to work even harder for bigger and better things to come.

Speaking to New Era Sport after his team’s well deserved victory, Bock expressed disappointment with their 1st half performance, saying his boys lacked coordination and did not fully demonstrate their desire of wanting to win the cup but it was only after a halftime tongue-lashing that the boys got their foot back on the paddle.

In the last quarter of the game, Tura Magic, also known as the Magicians amongst their fervent supporters, started coming out of their blocks and began to play their pressing game which had Arrows on the back foot many a time. It was a somewhat closely contested affair between the two teams but in the end it was Tura Magic that took home top honours via a 1-0 victory.

With the country’s elite league almost in its final stages of kicking off, Bock said he has warned his charges not to get big-headed and end up forgetting about other bigger encounters such as the premier league. He insisted that they would use the League Cup victory as a boost going into the new season.

“I trust this win has handed us the right platform to realise  how competitive the environment will get, that’s why I reminded my boys not to get carried away by the win but rather use this victory as a motivation for themselves as well as the entire team,” said Bock.
