The Omusati regional police are requesting the public to help them trace a 27-year-old suspect who is wanted in connection with the gruesome murder of his mother.

The incident occurred on Monday morning around 01h00 at the deceased’s homestead at Ontanda village in Tsandi Constituency in Omusati Region.

According to reports the 64-year-old woman was brutally beaten to death by her son after she tried to stop him from assaulting his younger siblings.

The suspect came home on Monday morning from a cuca shop, started quarrelling with his siblings and assaulted them with a stick.
The mother Paulina Angala intervened and tried to stop the fight. The suspect then turned his stick on his mother and beat her to death.

“After he realised the mother was no longer breathing he set her bedroom on fire,” said deputy public relations officer Sergeant Anna Kunga.

Kunga said the young siblings ran away to hide from their violent brother but later came home when they saw the suspect running out of the house.

“Upon arriving at home they found the mother’s bedroom on fire and her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood,” she said. The police were looking for the suspect.

The neighbours said the suspect is mentally stable but they do not know what prompted him to commit the barbaric crime.

Police are also shocked. In an almost similar incident in Omusati, a 30-year-old son killed his 63-year-old mother in July this year at Onaizimba village. The village is situated in Okalongo Constituency.
