A 47-year-old man was denied bail when he appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of raping his 13-year-old daughter.
The accused, whose name is known to New Era but will not be revealed to protect the identity of the victim, is a resident of Kavango West Region. He was arrested after a case of rape was opened against him.
Sources said the victim decided to run away from home and managed to speak to one relative about the defilement. The relative then alerted the police.
New Era was reliably informed the accused has been having sex with his daughter for a long time and even made the daughter abort several times after making her pregnant.
The accused appeared before magistrate Helen Olaiya, while Tjeripo Muruko prosecuted. The case was remanded to April 27. The accused was denied bail as the State fears he might interfere with ongoing investigations and because the victim is only 13 years old.
The court also advised the accused to get legal representation because of the seriousness of the crime.
