OMUTHIYA – A 34-year-old Namibian man died on Saturday after allegedly consuming a harmful chemical.
“It is alleged that on Friday, at around 12h00, at the deceased’s residence in Nomtsoub, Tsumeb, a family member overheard the deceased saying he drank (lime) scale remover, which is a harmful chemical,” reported the Oshikoto crime investigations coordinator Titus Ekandjo.
The chemical was bought by one of the family members to clean the house.
“The family rushed him to the Tsumeb Lombardt State Hospital, where he was admitted. On Saturday, he passed away,” said the deputy commissioner.
He stated a family member had claimed the victim suffered from depression.
His remains are being kept at the Tsumeb Lombardt State Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
