Man drowns after falling near Goreagab Dam

Man drowns after falling near Goreagab Dam

A man who was apparently wearing a hospital bandage on his arm tripped and fell into the water while trying to stroll along massive pipes near Goreangab Dam, resulting in a terrible drowning tragedy. Initial accounts state that the man lost his balance and fell into the dam, where he struggled until the river carried him away. His body was later found in the same location where he had fallen, despite efforts to save him, suggesting that he was unable to get out of the water after the slip.

The authorities were alerted to the situation, and the Windhoek City Police responded swiftly. The incident was officially confirmed earlier today by Windhoek City Police Superintendent Marcelline Murapo, who expressed condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. She emphasized the importance of being vigilant around flooded areas, particularly when engaging in activities near bodies of water. “This tragic event serves as a reminder for everyone to exercise caution around flooded or water-filled areas,” she said in a statement.

Murapo also urged people to avoid going on big, shaky pipes or any other potentially dangerous structures that might be close to the dam or other bodies of water. Particularly after recent rainfall, these places can be treacherous and slick, which may have added to the hazardous circumstances. To prevent such mishaps in the future, she suggested that people avoid such places.

At this time, the Windhoek City Police are urging members of the community to stay safe and alert, particularly in areas where water levels are high or where structures may be unstable.
