A private helicopter with the registration number V5-HSZ yesterday crashed at Molteblick on the eastern outskirts of Windhoek, killing a passenger on board.
Deputy Director: Prevention at the Directorate of Aircraft Accident Investigation in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Magnus Abraham, confirmed the accident, saying that one person has been confirmed dead, while three others have been injured.
“The helicopter took off from Eros Airport at 06h03 and was on its way to do recovery at the site of the previous helicopter crash about two weeks ago,” he said, adding that an investigation on what caused the crash has started.
Nampa reported that the pilot of the private helicopter who is said to be a Namibian citizen, sustained slight injuries, while two other passengers were seriously injured.
“By tomorrow [today] we will have some clue what caused the crash,” Abraham said.
He said the E−Med Rescue 24 Paramedical Service took the survivors to a hospital in Windhoek.
Meanwhile NBC reported that the three people who survived this morning’s helicopter crash have been identified as Abie van der Merwe who was the pilot, and passengers Tinus Loods and Johannes Augustus.
They are receiving treatment at the Lady Pohamba hospital in Windhoek.
The third passenger died when the helicopter crashed in Windhoek’s Auas mountains this morning.
His identity cannot be revealed as his next of kin were yet to be informed.
This is the second helicopter to crash in less than two weeks after another helicopter crashed recently, killing the 40-year-old pilot Lambert Roux.
