Home National Man killed for asking for liquor

WINDHOEK- A man allegedly suffering from a mental illness shot and killed another man and injured two women at a shebeen in the Babylon informal area last week Wednesday.

Information from the police suggests that the 40-year-old suspect went to a shebeen where traditionally-brewed liquor is sold and met another patron who asked to be bought some liquor.

The suspect then told the man that he would buy him some alcohol but had to go home first to get money.
He allegedly went to his house nearby and returned with a few coins which he gave to the man, and informed him that he was going to shoot him.

The suspect shot the man he had earlier threatened to shoot, including two women.
The first victim, identified as Gebhard Kauluma, 38, died on the spot.

A 41-year-old woman was shot three times, while another woman, aged 38, was shot once.
They were rushed to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, and are said to be in a serious but stable condition.

The suspect was admitted to the Windhoek Central Hospital’s psychiatric ward. The gun was confiscated by the police.
In another incident, Kethiy Majiedt, 16, was stabbed in the chest by a 24-year-old man at the Otjomuise football field along Boston Street on Wednesday.

Matheus said the deceased was playing football with other boys when the ball went out of play.
The deceased and suspect both went after the ball, and started arguing about who had the right to have the ball, which resulted in the stabbing.

Majiedt was rushed to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, but died upon arrival.
