WALVIS BAY – A Henties Bay woman was allegedly killed over the weekend by her partner after she ended their relationship.

The lifeless body of 52-year-old Paulina Namalambo was discovered on Sunday afternoon.

Police have linked her death to that of her boyfriend, Aristofel Shaanika, whose body was also discovered on Sunday morning at the Independence Beach, where it washed ashore.

Inspector Ileni Shapumba yesterday during the crime briefing said they believe Shaanika walked into the ocean and shot himself in the head after killing his girlfriend.

“Namalambo was last seen with Shaanika around 07h00 in Henties Bay at her residence, and he (her boyfriend) allegedly left her home alone around 16h00,” Shapumba said.

He added Namalambo did not show up for work at Jongmei road construction company at Henties Bay the next day.

“The police went to investigate and found her with a gunshot wound to her head. She was also covered with a blanket. Investigations led us to her partner, who had also ended his life in the meantime,” Shapumba said.  Police now suspects that Shaanika killed his girlfriend on Saturday and took a lift back to Walvis Bay, where he committed suicide.

He allegedly revealed to friends that he was not happy, as his girlfriend found someone else, and he wanted to end their affair.

The next of kin were notified about the murder-suicide.
