WINDHOEK – A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 31-year-old man at Onamhindi village in the Omusati Region on Friday afternoon at about 14h00, after which he went on the rampage with a gun in hand.

Inspector Stephan Nuuyi of the Namibian Police Public Relations Division told a media briefing yesterday that the man called the girl into his room, grabbed her, pulled her down and raped her. Nuuyi said the incident was not immediately reported to the police.

But the man then went on a shooting spree, in which he killed one person and injured six. He also killed four cattle.

At about 20:00 the same day he went to Omutwewondjaba location in  Omutundu village where he met his ex-girlfriend who was on her way home from a cuca shop. He shot and wounded her before he proceeded to fire a shot into a shebeen.

The injured people were rushed to Oshikuku Roman Catholic Hospital. The suspect was found heading for the border but he fled from the police and was shot in the right arm and left leg before being arrested, Nuuyi said.

He was taken to the Oshakati State Hospital and is expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court as soon as he is discharged from hospital.

Nuuyi also said that on Friday at 19:20 in Okuryangava, Windhoek a 29-year-old man was robbed of one cellphone, one pair of trousers, cash of N$760 and a bag of skinny jeans he was selling in a riverbed, after being held up at gunpoint. The man he met to sell the goods to grabbed him and three men appeared from nowhere with a gun.

On Friday at 16:50 near the weighbridge along the B1 Road to Rehoboth, a driver of a Ford Bantam lost his life while driving from Rehoboth to Windhoek. He drove under a truck, which was turning away from the weighbridge.
