A 36-year-old man from Otjekondjo farm in Hochfeld cut his girlfriend’s throat with a traditional knife (omukonda) on Saturday evening following an argument. The victim died instantly.
The Namibian Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said the act took place in their bedroom.
The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Ester Mathias.
The couple had a one-year-old baby together. Shikwambi said the suspect was arrested and police investigations continue. “It is alleged they just returned from the north three days ago. Yesterday (Saturday) they were arguing over the lady’s phone after the man saw an incoming SMS (not stated what it says) prompting his cruel actions,” said Shikwambi. In an unrelated incident, another 36-year-old man stabbed his one-month-old baby girl with a knife in the head after an argument with the mother.
Shikwambi said the baby was admitted to the Grootfontein State Hospital and was in a stable condition. “The suspect was arrested and police investigations continue.”Shikwambi said the man could not say what prompted him to stab the child as he was highly under the influence of alcohol.
Last week, a man from Rundu was arrested after shooting his son and girlfriend following an argument. It is alleged the man fought with his girlfriend over an affair with another man.
In July this year, a Windhoek man smashed his four-year-old son on the floor resulting in his death. The man said his girlfriend cheated on him and that the child was not his.
