GOBABIS – The deputy minister of disability affairs in the presidency, Alexia Manombe-Ncube, visited Omaheke last week to engage people with disabilities and hand over donations received through her office.
Manombe-Ncube and her team made a stopover in Omitara and registered those with disabilities for the individual support programme before proceeding to Gobabis, where they handed over musical instruments to the office of the governor, and sanitary packages to the beneficiaries through the office of the constituency councillor.
Handing over the musical instruments that were donated to her office by the Basic Affordable Sustainable Services (BASS), an organisation from Drachten in Netherlands, Manombe-Ncube said the items are meant for youth with disabilities with the potential and talent in musical activities.
“BASS approached our office to donate this equipment, particularly to the youth with disabilities in the Omaheke region. They have identified some youth with disabilities who have the potential and who are talented with this type of activities. We are, therefore, handing these to the office of the governor so that the governor can hand them over to the intended community,” said Manombe-Ncube.
She added that BASS also donated other items to her office, such as wheelchairs and other assistant devices that will eventually all be handed over to the intended persons throughout the country.
At the Gobabis constituency office, Manombe-Ncube handed over packages to the guardians of the beneficiaries – young girls with disabilities. Eight packages in a form of backpacks that contain sanitary towels, sanitary pads, soap and other hygienic items were donated by UNFPA.
She then proceeded to Epukiro, where she continued her outreach and still handed over some sanitary pads to the youth with disabilities.
