The Namibian Police at Omaruru is requesting members of the public to help with possible information regarding a man who raped a minor at the town last week.
“The sad incident took place on Wednesday at about 17h00 in the industrial area bushes near the big river in Omaruru town. It is alleged that the suspect found two minor girls fetching firewood in the bushes. He attacked the older girl (13), and held and dragged her into the river while tightening her hands with a rope,’’ said the police who are requesting assistance in finding the culprit.
“He went on to tie one of her arms against a tree and forcefully had sexual acts with her. The suspect was wearing a cloth mask, covering his face, and left the scene. The younger girl, however, managed to run home and report the incident to the family,’’ the police stated.
According to the police, the suspect is unknown at this stage, but investigations continue in the hope to bring the culprit to book. In a different incident, the police at Swakopmund on Wednesday at about 06h00, alongside Ondjamba Street in the DRC Location, were called to a scene, where an unidentified male person was found hanging from a pole of a stall.
It is suspected the victim might have committed suicide. “The deceased is not known in the vicinity. The scene was attended to by police, together with the paramedics from Swakopmund state hospital. His remains were taken to the hospital for death certification and storage,’’ said the police.
According to the police, the victim was wearing a grey jacket, brown khaki trousers and brown leather shoes with a blue dotted shirt, and he is believed to be between 30 to 45 years old.
“No foul play is suspected. Investigations as well as tracking down his next of kin are ongoing. Police call upon the public – anyone with information that will aid us in the investigation to contact detective warrant officer Kletus Kabuku at 0813910671 or report the matter to Mondesa police station 064415007,’’ the police stated.
A case of a missing person was reported to the police in Swakopmund. Elias Tulikeni Teofelus, a Namibian man, aged 25, and a resident of Swakopmund’s DRC informal settlement, allegedly left home at the beginning of July 2022.
“Attempts by the family to trace his whereabouts proved futile. He was reported missing by his brother, who allegedly visited his home on 30 October 2022 and was informed that his brother has not been seen around since the beginning of July 2022,’’ said the report that was brought to the police.
The police, in their report sent to the media, indicated the missing person’s clothes were discovered on the roof of his neighbour’s makeshift house (a shack), while his shack was found empty and his contact number has been off air ever since.
“However, it is alleged that before disappearing, he gave away all his foodstuffs to the neighbour, indicating that he has secured a new job somewhere without disclosing further details. He speaks Oshiwambo,’’ said the police.
