Oshakati
Father Christmas seems to have come early for the popular Kilimanjaro Boxing Club in Oshakati as it received a handsome cash injection by northern tycoon Dr Erastus Mvula on Friday.
Dr Mvula donated N$100 000 to the boxing club ahead of the national Junior Lightweight title fight slated for September 10 at the new open market here.
“I’m glad to give ploughed back to the community that forms a core of our business through sport in order to help the young people get the much-needed experience in the world of boxing. We want them to use it to make a good living in the future”, said Dr Mvula, who is the director of Mvula Groups of Companies.
He said sport is an integral part of economic development, as capable athletes are capable of earning good money and thus contribute to the economic development of the country. He urged the boxers to behave accordingly and put up a good fight to bring more titles to the region.
The owner of Kilimanjaro Boxing Club, Joseph Benhard, said this is not the first time that Dr Mvula has donated to the club: “However, this is a huge donation in the history of our club and boxing in general in this part of the country. It is a huge welcome relief for our national junior lightweight title bout, featuring Michael Benhard and David Shinuna on the 10th of this month.”
Boxing fans are in for a real treat of boxing when these two boxers meet in the ring. The main bout will be preceded by seven exciting undercard fights. Tickets are on sale for N$50 to the general public and N$200 for VIPs and can be obtained from Shoprite Stores and OK Furniture outlets around the country.
