The health infrastructure in the region is in a commendable state, said Ohangwena Governor Usko Nghaamwa during the recent state of the region address he delivered for Ohangwena Region.

Currently Ohangwena has at least 35 clinics, of which three are brand new and simply need to be officially opened.
The three brand new faculties plus one donated expecting mothers’ house were constructed to the tune of N$21.4 million

The facility for expecting mothers, named Josua Hanyango, worth close to N$2 million, was recently constructed and donated to Okongo Village Council by the former first lady Penehupifo Pohamba.

“The Ohangwena Region and its people will never forget the major roles she played for the benefit of our people. Therefore, her name will always be reflected in the history of our region, hence we call upon our Almighty God to shower her family with blessings,” said Nghaamwa.

Other health facilities that are still to be officially opened include Engela State Hospital that was renovated at a cost of N$7. 8 million, Omundudu Clinic and staff accommodation in Engela Constituency that were constructed at a cost of N$10.9 million, Omuhongo Clinic and staff accommodation that were constructed at a cost of N$7.1 million and prefabricated houses constructed at Ohaukelo at a cost of N$1.5 million.

Olukula Clinic in Okongo Constituency was also recently fenced off.
According to Nghaamwa other health facilities that are in the pipeline and are expected to be completed during the 2016/2017 financial year are Omauni Clinic in Okongo Constituency, Onamafila Clinic in Oshikunde Constituency and Onanghulo Clinic in Omulonga Constituency.

“In addition to that is the construction of the prefabricated accommodation at Olukula, Onamukulo, Ohaukelo, Epinga, and Eudafano clinics,” stated Nghaamwa.

The Ohangwena regional governor further maintained that extensions of Okongo and Eenhana hospitals are underway. Ongha Clinic will also get a facelift with new staff flats, kitchen, laundry, a guardhouse, ambulance garage and a mortuary.
