The annual Rössing National Marathon saw Salmy Nduviteko and Simon Matias claim the 42.2km men’s and women’s races, respectively.
Matias was the first runner to cross the finish line in a time of 2:13:01 seconds.
“I am happy with my performance. It was a great race. Thank you to everyone who supports me, and see you again next year,” said Matias.
Jesaya Mateus took second place in 02:17:08, while Wilhelm Hangula took third place in 02:17:34 seconds.
Nduviteko finished in 2 hours and 37 minutes.
Risa Dreyer took second place in 03:00:03 seconds, while Dunja Pritzen took third place in a time of 03:32:28 seconds.
Nduviteko said she was very happy with her performance as a first-time competitor.
“I am extremely excited to have won my debut marathon. I would like to congratulate myself on giving my very best and extend my appreciation to my teammates who always motivate and support me. Secondly, I would like to salute my coach, Ndangi Paulus Iyambo, who continues to give his best and whom I consider the best coach for me.
Above all, I thank the Lord, as everything was made possible through the Almighty. I am truly grateful and would also like to thank the organising committee for their efforts. I humbly encourage them to continue growing the event with each season,” he added.
In the veteran men’s category, Jason Johannes took first place in 02:21:02 seconds, Paulus Vilho finished second in 02:31:33 seconds, and Winter Erastus took third place in 02:35:19 seconds.
The veteran women’s race saw Ottilie Aimwata bagging first place in 02:44:07, while Alina Armas finished second with 02:47:40 seconds, and Beata Naigambo took third place in 02:52:12 seconds.
