Mbambo vows transparency, accessibility

Newly appointed presidential press secretary, Jonas Mbambo, has pledged to usher in a new era of open communication and media engagement from the highest office in the land.

In an interview with Nampa last week, Mbambo, whose appointment takes effect on 1 August 2025, expressed great appreciation for the trust placed in him, acknowledging the weight and significance of the position.

“I feel truly honoured and humbled by this appointment. It comes with significant responsibility, which I take seriously.

I am excited about the journey ahead and grateful for the opportunity to serve the country in this new role,” Mbambo said.

News of his appointment was announced by the Presidency on Sunday afternoon.

Mbambo, a seasoned media professional, holds a law degree from the People’s Friendship University in Moscow, Russia.

“With strong analytical skills and knowledge of the political landscape, Mbambo brings to the Presidency a wealth of knowledge gained in media and specifically broadcasting journalism,” the Presidency said.

Mbambo emphasised the importance of fostering strong relationships with the media to keep the public accurately and timely informed.

“I firmly believe in honest, open communication, particularly with the media. My goal is to foster strong, respectful relationships with journalists and media organisations.

I will strive to be accessible, responsive, and ensure the flow of information is clear and consistent. We all share the same objective of: keeping the public informed,” Mbambo said.

His vision, he stressed, includes modernising how the Presidency communicates with citizens, highlighting the introduction of a fresh and more relatable approach to engagement with the nation.

“This includes better utilisation of digital platforms, being more proactive in sharing information, and ensuring that people feel connected to the actions and decisions made at the highest level of leadership,” Mbambo said. -Nampa
