Mbumba calls for collective climate change fight

Mbumba calls for collective climate change fight

President Nangolo Mbumba has stressed collective resolve to accelerate the fight against climate change, following the unprecedented fires in California in the United States of America.

Media reports revealed that at least 16 people have died, and more than 12 000 structures have been destroyed by the fires in the Los Angeles area since last week.

The fires had not yet been contained by Sunday.

Experts have said climate change has contributed to an increase in the frequency and season length of wildfires.

Mbumba extended his solidarity with president Joe Biden and the American people in a statement on Sunday.

“These unprecedented fires, recorded to be the worst in American history, highlight the importance of our collective resolve to accelerate the fight against climate change.

As a country that is disproportionately affected by a warming planet, Namibia stands ready to work with the American government and like-minded nations to deal with the scourge of climate change,” he said.
