Rudolf Gaiseb

President Nangolo Mbumba is set to participate in the 44th Ordinary Summit of the SADC Heads of State and Government, scheduled to take place tomorrow in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The summit will be held under the theme ‘Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustained Economic Growth and Development towards an Industrialised SADC’.

It is expected to discuss peace and security in the region; progress on the implementation of the SADC regional indicative strategic development plan (RISDP); progress on the implementation of regional programmes and projects; and the implementation of an industrialisation strategy and roadmap, amongst others.

The Presidency stated that besides the SADC summit, Mbumba will participate in the Organ Troika Summit on 16 August 2024. The Organ Troika Summit will deliberate on the region’s political and security situation.

This includes the progress report on the Southern African Development Community Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC), and the implementation of the drawdown and withdrawal plan of the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).

The Republic of Zambia will hand over the Chair of the Organ Troika to Tanzania. Malawi will become the incoming Chair of the Organ Troika.

The President departed yesterday, and will return on Sunday.
