WINDHOEK

Namibia’s Big Brother fans yesterday turned out in big numbers at Hosea Kutako International Airport as the country’s representative in Big Brother Africa II Meryl Shikwambane returned home.

Meryl was the third housemate to be evicted after Justice of Botswana and Jeff of Kenya.

Dressed in a white suit, red stilettos, and red top, the 21-year-old star said it was wonderful to be back home.

“I represented my country and I will not take anything back that I said or did while in the house,” she says.

While she was the youngest among the 12 housemates, Meryl says she was tough and competitive.

Despite being a threat to many, she believes she made more friends in the house than enemies.

Although she did not give more details, Meryl told the press upon arrival that “the exposure on Big Brother Africa II “has also opened doors for me since I walked out of the house”.

Saying when she entered the house she was single and ready to mingle, Meryl described her friendship with Kwaku as having been mutual regardless of the age difference between them.

Kwaku is aged 30.

“Kwaku and I had a mutual friendship and we agreed that after he gets out of the house we will contact each other and take it from there,” she said.

While housemates such as Richard alleged that Meryl was once in an uncompromising position with Kwaku, the outspoken young woman said, “I did not do anything with Kwaku.”

Meryl, according to her mother Elly Mbonga, entered Big Brother Africa II purely for fun and not necessarily for the money.

“She seems to be enjoying herself and I am happy if she is getting the fun she went there for but if she gets the money as well, we will even be happier,” she said in an earlier interview with New Era.

However, Meryl could have faced difficulties in the house as most of the housemates especially the women appeared to have suppressed their true selves and being the free spirit that she is, she might have struggled to find her “type”, her mother added.

Meryl yesterday said one thing she found annoying in the house was the silence and lack of self-expression among some housemates.
