“All these services should enable users to reap from the fruits of the enormous wealth the country has and transform their community into a lively and enlightened one, and empower their economic base,” said Information Minister Tjekero Tweya at the inauguration of the office.
Minister Tweya appealed to the business community to complement government’s efforts by supporting the establishment and expansion of multi-purpose community centres (MPCC) in rural areas.
“We all have a stake in the government, because the government is us. Big things can be achieved when we all Harambee and pull together in the same direction,” said Tweya.
To date, the MICT has established MPCC offices in all 14 regions in an effort to lay a foundation for e-governance in the rural areas. The minister pledged to continue to install internet services to make information more widely accessible.
He said the ministry plans to put up MCCP offices in all the constituencies across the country.
The minister thus called for the Ohangwena leadership’s support to ensure that through the information and services are provided by both the MCCPs and MICT regional offices they succeed in realising government’s policy of inclusivity.
Ohangwena has two MCCP offices, one in Endola and one in Okongo.
Minister Tweya further pledged to look into issues of network coverage and road networks in some parts of Ohangwena.
“The government is aware of the hardship that some parts of Ohangwena, including Epembe, Okongo and Omundaungilo, are going through due to poor network coverage.
“I am equally aware that the same area also has problems with the road network. Let me assure you that government is committed to ensuring that all must be included,” the minister said, before appealing to Ohangwena MICT staff to provide first class services to the community.
