RUNDU – Two people were reported died in a car accident 8km towards the Mururani checkpoint on Saturday
The white Toyota Quantum passenger bus was travelling from Rundu to Windhoek when the accident occurred.
The deceased passengers, both male, were identified to be Johannes Kalunda (43) and Mahongo Tangeni, a minor of unknown age, and their next of kin have been notified.
The event happened at about 11h00 at Mahahe village, which lies about 8km east of the Mururani checkpoint in the Kavango West region.
“It is alleged that the driver, Olavi Johannes, was driving; upon reaching +- 8 km to the Mururani checkpoint, he lost control, and the vehicle overturned. It is alleged that the rear right tyre burst and caused the vehicle to overturn and roll over several times, and two people, both male, died, an adult and a minor, while other passengers survived but sustained multiple serious injuries,’’ said the police report.
About 18 passengers were aboard the bus.
