Ministry to Streamline Activities

By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK In an effort to restructure itself, the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development will today start a ministerial workshop. The liaison and public relations officer in the ministry, Frans Nghitila said since the new government took over last year, the ministry added rural development to its initial portfolio and this necessitated a workshop that would bring together all relevant authorities in the sector to find ways of looking at a restructuring process. The meeting that is taking place at Swakopmund will among other issues seek ways of incorporating its existing programmes, as well as rural development activities. Nghitila further indicated that though the ministry’s name has changed, no major shift in its operations would be made. The ministerial retreat would further review the current strategic plan of the ministry and draw up a new three-year plan to serve as a guiding and measuring tool for the ministry. “The ministry is satisfied with the progress made with the just ended five-year strategic plan and a new one has to be drawn,” stated Nghi-tila. Attending the meetings would be management and senior staff of the ministry and representatives of the Public Service Commission. Regional governors will join in during the last two days of the workshop, together with their chief regional officers and directors of administration and personnel. The ministerial workshop ends on Friday.
