Four minor girls between the ages of four and 13 tears old were the unfortunate victims of the latest string of rape offences in Namibia over the past weekend, it was reported at the weekly crime briefing of the Namibian police.
At Ishingadu Village in Eenhana Constituency a four-year-old girl was raped by a known suspect at about 16h00 on June 17. No further details were made available yesterday, but the suspect, age as yet unknown, was arrested and will appear in Eenhana Magistrate’s Court today.
Also in Eenhana Constituency at Ohandiba Village a 30-year old man was arrested for reportedly raping a six-year old girl at about 18h00 on Thursday, June 17. According to police spokesperson Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi, the suspect entered the hut the toddler was sleeping in and removed (kidnapped) her and took her to his hut, where he allegedly violated her.
The victim is not related to the suspect, she said. He is due to appear in Eenhana Magistrate’s Court today, while police investigations continue.
Four suspects were arrested by Kalkrand police on June 18 for reportedly gang-raping a 13-year-old girl on several occasions between January and June 17. It is alleged that the suspects, aged 26, 23, 18 and 17 years, held their victim at knifepoint on several occasions, threatened her and took turns to violate her. The suspects were arrested after a tip-off and are expected to appear at the Mariental Magistrate’s Court today.
From Henties Bay, it is reported that a 13-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour, aged 29, between June 17 and 18 in a house in the Omdel residential area. According to the crime briefing, the girl’s parents became suspicious and confronted the her to find out what was going on – and she spilled the beans. The suspect is expected to be brought before Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court today.
Police investigations into all four cases continue.
